I recently have been asked about how our fish oil may assist in the treatment of a skin condition called "coat funk". My husband Hiram bought a gallon of Fish Oil from you yesterday at Sendaishi. I had been given us a 16 ounce bottle of it
as a gift, and we've been using it on the food of two of our 13 sled dogs. Those two dogs have had severe coat problems
caused by an inherited disorder, inlcluding dry, thinning hair and bald patches on their hips and tail. The condition is
called "coat funk" in malamutes, but it has different names in other breeds. Veterinary dermatologists simply call it
alopecia x because so little is known about the causes. No definitive treatment exists at this time.

Our two dogs seemed to be getting slightly better before we started giving them your fish oil, but over the summer their
improvement has been nothing short of miraculous. While I am reluctant to attribute the regrowth of hair to fish oil alone,
there is no doubt in my mind that it has been a major factor. We had been afraid that those two dogs would have to be
retired prematurely from our team, but now they have plenty enough coat to allow them to run in all but the most extreme
winter conditions. It will be interesting to see whether they continue to hold their new coats. Their condition is clearly a
medical disorder of some type, but, like other diseases, it is mediated by a wide variety of factors, including hormones and
nutrition.

For a long time people have thought that omega fatty acids played a role in improving coats, but the results that people get
from the various products out there have been patchy, to say the least. I am the health committee chairperson for our
national breed club, and will be sure to spread the word about your product. It isn't appropriate for me to "advertise" any
one product, but if my experience with your fish oil will help someone else's dog, I certainly want to share it.

The Right of Every Animal

After seeing so many recent posts regardingThe Buxton Kennel Rescue Campaign supporting animal rights, I too am compelled to express my thoughts on this very important topic.

If this were a time like long ago, when Native Americans, practiced living in tandem with the animals, we wouldn’t even be talking about this kind of animal neglect right now. We would be more in tune with the sacredness of the animals and their gifts to our soceity would be more readily apparent and appreciated.

Such travesties as The Michael Vick dog fighting mess, simply personifies, the total disregard for nature and its animals, and it is the greed in man that causes such abominations to animals. Greed has rapidly become a breeding ground for ignorance.

A large facet of the worlds populus has lost its own reverance, due to this lack of respect for nature , and our animals.

We need to be guided back to this earlier time to live and experience the land and the seasons and the ways of animals.

Today, in our time of great changes on our planet, many have no idea how much we need dedicated proponents of protecting nature, who can collectively converse about the seasons, the elements, GLOBAL WARMING,the ways of animals, and the cycles of life and whose primary interests are not in seeing dollar signs and continue to exploit our animals for the sake of the dollar.

Because, in order for atrocities on animals to stop, man needs to care again about having a spiritual relationship with nature.

“Relating” to something is key to “caring” about it.

Laws will NEVER completely stop these things, thus is why they continue to occur.

When they will truly stop, will be when man is impelled to have a spiritual realization that we all need to do so SOON if we are to perservere.

I wanted to follow up my The " Chicks" Have Arrived Blog, regarding Ocean Omega 3 Eggs; with some further information:

Because of its high omega-3 content, Ocean Omega fish oil is a natural 'functional feed'
providing health and welfare benefits to livestock. Meat, milk and egg
products from farmed animals fed high omega-3 fish oil are, in turn,
functional foods which benefit human health.

About 6.5 million tons of fish oil is produced world-wide each year.
Fish oil is included in the diets of many farm animals including poultry,
pigs, cattle and sheep, usually at levels of 2 to 10% of the ration and also
in the diets of most carnivorous farmed fish, for example at a level of 35
to 40% in fish oil feed.

Ocean Omega fish oil is a natural balanced feed ingredient that is high in protein,
energy and minerals, vitamins and micronutrients. It contains high levels of the health promoting omega-3 very long chain
polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA, often referred to as 'omega-3s'.

Omega-3 is essential and beneficial in both human and animal diets. The
ratio of omega-6: omega-3 (n-6:n-3) fatty acids in human and animal diets is
also important. In the Western human diets this is currently typically 10:1
or 12:1, compared with the desirable ratio of 4:1 or 5:1. In short, western
human diets are deficient in omega-3 compared with omega-6.

In the human health context, omega-3 prevents or reduces the chances of
developing coronary heart disease. It also reduces high blood pressure,
kidney disorders, inflammatory bowel disorders and autoimmune disease. The
fish oil fatty acids are essential to the growth and development of unborn
and newly born babies and toddlers. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and
babies should include oily fish or fish oil in their diets.

Scientific research has shown that eating products from animals fed on
fishmeal or fish oil increases the consumer's intake of omega-3 fatty acids
and so benefits health.

Health authorities recommend a six fold increase in dietary intake of
omega-3 in the typical Western diet from about 0.2g/day to 1.25g/day.

There is also considerable evidence of health and welfare benefits to farmed
animals from having sufficient omega-3 in their diets, and from consuming
more than they typically have now. There is evidence that omega-3s are
antinflammatory, improve fertility and reduce stress. When fish oil is fed
to animals it not only benefits the animals but also increases the omega-3
content, and improves the balance of omega-6 to omega-3 in their meat, milk
and eggs. Eating these products in turn increases omega-3 and improves the
ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 in the human diet.

Increased fish oil in animal diets offers a way in which consumers can
increase their intake of omega-3 without drastically altering their diet.

The content of omega-3s in menhaden respectively
is 26, -35g/100g fatty acids. The omega-6: omega-3 ratio of this
fish oil is about 1:10, which means that fish oil rectify the
imbalance of omega-6:omega-3 and can be used to achieve the desirable ratio
of 4:1 to 5:1 in the finished feed ration.

In this respect
fish oil is unique. They are now the sole direct source of the very long
chain omega-3s for animal diets . Formerly (now banned) meat and
bone meal and other animal products could have provided a dietary source of
omega-3s.

Other vegetable feeds may supply alpha linolenic acid (ALA) an 18-carbon
omega-3, which can be used by the animal to synthesise EPA and DHA; but,
with the exception of linseed and fresh grass, it is present at levels much
lower than the omega-3s in fish oil.

The human population can increase its omega-3 intake by consuming more oily
fish, by taking fish oil in the form of capsules, or by buying food products
with added omega-3. However many experts believe that the most palatable and
acceptable option is to consume meat, milk and eggs from poultry and animals
feed whose diet includes fish oil.

There is enormous contemporary interest in 'functional foods' which maintain
health and prevent disease. This approach to diet is also described as
'positive nutrition'.

Because of its high omega-3 content Ocean Omega fish oil is a natural 'functional feed'
providing health and welfare benefits for livestock. Meat, milk and egg
products from animals fed fish oil, are functional foods which benefit human
health.

I have been doing some research on applications of fish oil as a component of medication for "hoof" care in horses. Our Ocean Omega Flavored Equine Fish Oil has seen proven results in the treatment of Laminitis, but I am interested in seeking information for other possible scenarios that our Equine Oil could be found beneficial in the treatment process.

I have made several entries in this blog about the nutrition and diet concerns of our friends, but I also ask us all to reflect and realize that their mental state is just as vital to their overall well being.

I ask us all to remind ourselves that animals have no choice, but the choices we make for them. We need to be cognizant that they too are living, breathing creations, that much like ourselves, have to co-exist within the soceity and environment WE have created. They have the same emotions as we humans do, i.e. joy,love, pain, fear, rejection, etal.

Those of us who own and love pets and ALL animals, and have spent any significant time with them know this to be fact. We also know that dogs, especially, are willing to die to protect us, without giving a thought to their own lives. We have asked them to do things like lead the blind, provide comfort for the sick and convalescent, fight alongside our soldiers, and place themselves in danger along with our public servants,i.e., police officers and firemen.

Lets all treat our pets as we ourselves expect to be treated.Lets also strive to enhance their good mental health as well.

I was informed late last week that a client and friend of Ocean Omega; sisters dog has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Over the last four years, unfortunately, we have had an increase in orders for our Ocean Omega Fish Oil, SPECIFICALLY for helping to induce appetite in helping to keep the pets nutritional levels high during their individual bouts with lymphoma.This is applicable to this friend and client , who also helps rescue dogs, she has utilized our OO Fish Oil within her household as well.

In the case of domesticated dogs. Cancer is on the rise, such developmental disorders are unfortunately becoming commonplace, life expectancy is shortening and the pets are becoming more fragile and it is becoming more expensive to maintain treatments nowadays, than ever before. There has also been a large international contingent built around processed dog food, health treatments, and more recently 'snack foods' for our dogs which is in very juxtaposition to the same trends in our own lives.

Dogs nowadays don't get to eat much raw or ripening meat and don't get to eat many bones. They don't get to catch their own prey or scavenge for food. They don't eat the raw stomach contents of dead animals they only ever get to eat cooked, commercial and chemical laden feeds. They don't get enough exercise and they often share the stress and the boredom of our own lifestyles. They are getting sicker and this is no surprise. Our dogs have somewhat less complicated lives and, although stress, boredom and artificial environments are emerging problems, their modern diet and subverted exercise patterns are some of the major contributing factors in the increase in Canine Cancers at this point in time.

Commercial dog food along with subverted exercise patterns in our modern dogs lives, is almost completely responsible for the decline in Canine health for the last few decades.Cancer is now the number one killer of most domestic animals. This fact raises a significant level of fear for those who know how difficult and painful it can be to endure the course of this disease in their pets. Cancer does not occur without cause - various environmental, dietetic, and vaccine- can most certainly be considered culprits that may cause cancer in pets. The holistic approach treats the whole animal, ignites the bodys’ internal healing force and stimulates the body's natural abilities to heal itself.

Previous research has shown that some polyunsaturated fatty acids, like those found in Ocean Omega Fish Oil, may help prevent the growth and spread of cancer tumors, and may help prevent cachexia -- the devastating weight loss and muscle wasting seen in some cancer patients despite adequate nutrition.

testing on him or anything. He might be in a coma or something."

As the bird's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs,
put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the parrot from top
to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet escorted the dog from the room and returned a few moments later with
a cat.

The cat jumped up and delicately sniffed the bird. The cat then sat back,
shook it's head, meowed and ran out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but, like I said, your
parrot is most definitely 100% certifiably dead." He then turned to his
computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the
woman.

The parrot's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "A HUNDRED AND FIFTY
DOLLARS!", she cried. "A HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS just to tell me my bird
is dead?!"

The vet shrugged, "If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would only have
been $20, but... what with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan..... it's
$150.00.

How many dogs are needed to change a light bulb?
Golden Retriever:
The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us,
and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out light bulb?

Border Collie:
Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

This is Max- he is our chief taste tester for our Ocean Omega Plus "Oil In The Cat"

I wanted to introduce Max as our spokes animal for a request that we recently received at our Ocean Omega Website, regarding "alternative" ways to administer our Ocean Omega Fish Oil to finicky cats.

We use an eye dropper, administered directly down Maxs' gullet, in lieu of a direct top coat application to his food. Max is the epitome of the finicky cat and just simply doesn't like to have anything foreign on his food. I recently received two new inquiries at our Ocean Omega website, both regarding how fish oil can be utilized in treating constipation in cats. One of the inquiries was sent in with a bad return e mail address, so for the slight chance that this individual may be reading this blog entry, heres the direct quote of how I answered the other potential OO clients same question.

I have two brother cats of my own, and they have both been on our Ocean Omega fish oil for four years, with good results in treating one cats diabetes, and the others chronic pancreatitus. My vet gives high praise for our fish oil in strengthening their immune sytems, and he concurs that it is contributory to their longevity, they just celebrated their 17th birthday.

I actually place our Ocean Omega fish oil directly as a top coat on one of my cats food, he prefers our Gold version, because he likes the fishy aroma and taste. In one of my recent OO Blog entries I encouraged readers to feel free to participate in a forum of sorts regarding their experiences with hollistic products.

Most pets go through life seemingly happy with their routine and their food. Also pets should have three major diet changes in their life times. You generally know if pets are allergic to their pet food, if they’re scratching their face, or rubbing their face with their paws.

Pets should be fed MOST people food with great caution. If the pet just has people food, the pet will not have a totally nutritious diet scheme.

Typically, a pet needs more fat for energy and a healthy skin and coat, and less fiber for good intestinal health than humans would require. Good fat sources for pets include chicken fat and fish oil. A combination of carbohydrates, like barley and other whole grains offer optimum digestibility and helps maintain energy levels. Antioxidants from fruits and vegetables can help boost pets immunities. Be sure to review and compare the nutritional analysis on the label of your pets food.

Mix It Up: How to Easily Change Your Pets Food
If your pet is a finicky eater or shows signs of a reduced appetite, consult your veterinarian and discuss the possible need for a change in their diet. A successful transition for new diets may include introducing the new food gradually. Start by mixing 25 percent of the new food with 75 percent of the old food, and gradually adjusting the proportions over the course of a few days until the pet is eating 100 percent of the new food. Pets love routine, so feeding them at the same time and place every day will help the transition. Also keep in mind premium pet foods often contain more nutrients, therefore, smaller portions are usually recommended.

Leading experts avow that trim pets that eat well and enjoy plenty of physical activity can live, on average, 15 percent longer than overweight pets.

When some pets have lack of exercise,it can result in behavior problems or even lead to physical ailments. Bad-pet behavior such as biting, chewing, digging and house-soiling is significantly lower when pets get enough exercise. An exercised pet rests more calmly at home and is less nervous when left alone. • The best exercise provides both physical and mental stimulation.
•. Most pets will rarely exercise alone, but wait for “their people” to play with them.
• Let your pet play with other pets to help them learn to enjoy other pets and people.
• Retrieving is easy exercise. Tossing a toy or ball , playing tug games is a great substitute for walking if exercise space is limited.

Ocean Omega has experienced another growth spurt in our numbers of orders and repeat customers. The inquiries at our website have increased by 33% over the last three months.
