MRSA and Pets
I recently received an inquiry at our OO website from a lady stating that her vet intimated that our OO fish oil would conflict with Baytril, which was prescribed by the inquirers vet to treat MRSA/Mersa.
What I first said to myself when receiving this inquiry is not g rated. What I replied to the inquirer is the following:
We as pet owners need to be concerned with animals contracting MRSA. It is a very worrying situation. More research needs to be done for the future. Concerns about MRSA cross contamination from people to animals, should have vets being diligent about infection control, and what they are prescribing. As for your vet and the value of fish oil enhancing the immune system of pets, he or she simply needs to do more research (turns out the vet had a Large Pharma supplier of fish oil on the vet office shelf--hmmm).
If vets are "scratching" (bad pun here) their collective heads and now blaming the pets, because their respective favorite pharmas can't come up with anything either, then we should all be concerned with protecting pets from unnecessary suffering and death.
For years dog health supplies have included toxic materials to artificially maintain dog health as a temporary measure. The time has come to change to a more natural approach toward animal health. Natural remedies have been shown to achieve more immediate, more complete and longer lasting health, vitality, quality and longevity of animal lives.
I have heard, but cannot vouch for the validity, that Manuka Honey is a very potent natural product which can kill MRSA?

I can not see how fish oil which is a totally natural product from a fish, would interact with a drug. Growing up a hundred years ago they gave us cod liver oil (it was a requirement in schools). Yuk!! But we were healthy. Its like saying you cannot eat spinach because it might interact with aspirin. Spinach might just make you healthy along with some Kale and you would not need drugs.
Well anyway I do have Manuka honey on hand. I take it every day during the so called flu season(recent studies have determined that the flu vaccines do not work yet they still recommend and dispense them)(injecting me with a strain of flu does not cure flu in my mixed up mind. I have found that Honey is a cure all for many things. I stay away from crowds(because I do not much like people anymore) and I wash my hands frequently as I have a fetish for this. Honey and bee venom are good for wounds and rashes and such along with the fact that it tastes good in tea. Honey on warm toast is to kill for. Ask the green Gecko he knows.
Any means to keep us and our animals in poor health seems to be the word of the day. The pharmas want to own us. They probably do by now. Personally I will stay with the Manuka Honey, fish oil and hand washing. Have a great day!!!!!

Hey Bill,
The vet may have meant that the fish oil may block absorption of the baytril....IF DOSED AT THE SAME TIME. A rule of thumb with vitamins and prescriptions: dose medications first...wait 2 hours..then dose vitamins. By following this recommendation, you are minimizing the effect of a drug interaction. Hope that this helped.

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your comment. You are right on regarding the fact of waiting 2 hrs between dosing medications and then vitamins.
As you know from your personal e mail that I have sent you sent you in the interim, in this particular case that message wasn't conveyed by the vet to our client. It was simply stated to not take fish oil in conjunction with the baytril.

One new product pet owners may want to consider in ELIMINATING the threat of MRSA to their pets is the INVISIBLE HEALTH PET BLANKET.
The blank uses technology tested and approved by the FDA, EPA and NASA, in the form of a non-toxic and environmentally friendly coating bonded to the blanket’s surface. The coating actually disrupts the cell membranes of bacteria, dust mites and other harmful microbes - including MRSA - eliminating them within minutes of contact and leaving your pet and home cleaner and healthier.
Prices for the blankets depend on size and range from $49.95 to $69.95. All can be safely machine-washed and tumble-dried and the coating will last for hundreds of washings. The blanket can be purchased at http://www.invisiblehealth.net.
