Preventing and Healing Cancer in Dogs, Cats, Horses and Other Animals
I was informed late last week that a client and friend of Ocean Omega; sisters dog has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Over the last four years, unfortunately, we have had an increase in orders for our Ocean Omega Fish Oil, SPECIFICALLY for helping to induce appetite in helping to keep the pets nutritional levels high during their individual bouts with lymphoma.This is applicable to this friend and client , who also helps rescue dogs, she has utilized our OO Fish Oil within her household as well.
In the case of domesticated dogs. Cancer is on the rise, such developmental disorders are unfortunately becoming commonplace, life expectancy is shortening and the pets are becoming more fragile and it is becoming more expensive to maintain treatments nowadays, than ever before. There has also been a large international contingent built around processed dog food, health treatments, and more recently 'snack foods' for our dogs which is in very juxtaposition to the same trends in our own lives.
Dogs nowadays don't get to eat much raw or ripening meat and don't get to eat many bones. They don't get to catch their own prey or scavenge for food. They don't eat the raw stomach contents of dead animals they only ever get to eat cooked, commercial and chemical laden feeds. They don't get enough exercise and they often share the stress and the boredom of our own lifestyles. They are getting sicker and this is no surprise. Our dogs have somewhat less complicated lives and, although stress, boredom and artificial environments are emerging problems, their modern diet and subverted exercise patterns are some of the major contributing factors in the increase in Canine Cancers at this point in time.
Commercial dog food along with subverted exercise patterns in our modern dogs lives, is almost completely responsible for the decline in Canine health for the last few decades.Cancer is now the number one killer of most domestic animals. This fact raises a significant level of fear for those who know how difficult and painful it can be to endure the course of this disease in their pets. Cancer does not occur without cause - various environmental, dietetic, and vaccine- can most certainly be considered culprits that may cause cancer in pets. The holistic approach treats the whole animal, ignites the bodys’ internal healing force and stimulates the body's natural abilities to heal itself.
Previous research has shown that some polyunsaturated fatty acids, like those found in Ocean Omega Fish Oil, may help prevent the growth and spread of cancer tumors, and may help prevent cachexia -- the devastating weight loss and muscle wasting seen in some cancer patients despite adequate nutrition.

My heart goes out to your client's dog who is suffering the ravages of cancer. Another casualty of our society.
I have been "screaming" for years that vaccines are killing our dogs. Dog foods are killing our dogs. It is very convenient to toss a bowl of food on the floor for the dog.
Our society has us convinced that we must go yearly and pump more vaccines into our dogs or they might get a disease that can be transmitted to us. These are stupid ideas right along with cats sucking the breath out of babies. By now you have detected a tinge of anger in my tone.
Will we ever grow up and realize that medication is not the cure for life. Clean water, healthy food and a modicum of supplements as we have nicely depleted the soil our food is grown in, or better yet we like to eat quick chemically altered foods that do not require much other than putting them into our bodies.
One of my favorites at this time is the commercial for a ready made diet delivered to your door with 14 weeks of free food. You would get the same results from eating cardboard boxes and my guess is they would taste about the same.
We buy a rather inexpensive dog food and let our dogs eat it. They will eat what we give them. Do they have a choice? We run them to the vet for another puncture. Now we are all safe from some exotic disease we have never heard of that could not be transmitted between species. Have you ever gotten Parvo? Does your dog catch your cold??
After the devastating dog food recall which is still going on, the foods remained on the shelves. Now, think about this. Do you really think the companies took the loss of removing the foods from their warehouses? Get over yourself. The same crap that was out there killing our dogs and cats is still out there killing our dogs and cats.
It does not require a genius to feed our dogs/cats. They do not require cooked food. Did you ever see a pack of wolves sitting around a campfire grilling?
Feed yourself and your dogs a probiotic fresh diet. My pet is finicky and will not eat it, you say. Your pet will eat peanut butter and ritz crackers if it gets hungry enough.
Fresh raw meats,fish, yogurt (home made is easy and cheap) cottage cheese, some raw veggies,fruits, raw bones ( and you do not have to take them to the dentist,I do not brush their teeth and they are pearly white)("the better to bite you with my dear") carrots to chew on, no onions, tomatoes or grapes. If you must supplement with a dry food use a high end food that has not been recalled. Read the ingredients. Supplement with Omega fish oil and maybe some Kelp.(I use Menhaden fish oil as salmon oil tends to have mercury in it.) Common Sense Please!!!!
In 20 years I have never had a dog die of anything except old age. My dogs do not have skin issues and seldom see a vet. My dogs have nice coats and strong immune systems. I do not vaccinate beyond one time when a pup leaves to go to a new area and that is only one vaccination. I send them off with a litany of do nots.
I go into high stress trauma when I hear of a dog with cancer or some other disease that is human not dog. We invented cancer and heart disease. It is a product of our society because we eat foods made from petroleum by products. Yummy!!! Now we have genetically altered foods. Oh boy!! What can I look forward to next.
We have something like Omega 3 fish oil that can be put on the food daily from a squirt bottle. Now how hard is that!! Bottles of this oil go out with every puppy that leaves our kennels. We are lucky enough to have two guys from Maine that care about us enough to bottle stinky fish oil for us. You have me the probiotic quiz kid and bane of vets who will take the time to help you put together a healthy diet for your critter. You have this blog overflowing with information.
You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink.

Those of us who deeply care about the well being of ALL animals, concur with your statements.
I have been in sales for over thirty years, and it appears to me that within most of our soceity the marketing and subliminal messages we see compounded by the mass media venues and big corporations, over this last thiry years, has "morphed" us to a large degree into complacency.
We do need to feed a probiotic diet and lean more heavily to hollistic alternatives to prolong the good quality of life for our pets.

PARVOVIRUS
This virus is resistant to phenolic disinfectants and to heat. It can be inactivated however with ordinary household bleach (Clorox) used at a concentration of one part bleach to twenty parts water. Exposure to sunshine also kills the virus. For the bleach solution to work any organic material must be removed by washing.
Dogs over six months of age develop natural resistance to the effects of parvovirus. The disease is caused by a highly contagious virus that is transmitted mostly by dogs orally contacting infected feces. Parvo can linger in the environment for many months. It can withstand freezing winter temperatures. It can be carried on the hair and feet of roaming animals.
The incubation period is 5 to 10 days. It is a disease of the intestinal track. Diagnosis requires an antibody test that detects the actual parvovirus in stool samples. The test is an ELISA test or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. There are no carrier dogs.
Parvo is NOT an airborne virus. It is excreted in the feces of infected dogs. This is one reason I do not recommend dog parks. If you think you may have contacted the virus a strong solution of ordinary bleach and water will kill the virus. You must wash your clothing, shoes, hands with the solution but definately do not bleach your dog.
I hope this is helpful in some way and may alleviate the fear of this virus when you understand what it is and how it is transmitted.
