Becoming Locally Visible
When Ocean Omega started to receive some website activity in late 2003, early 2004, it was time for me to try and introduce ourselves to our own back yard, Maine. This marketing mission of mine was to find fellow pet healthcare product providing proprietors on a local level in Maine.
In mid 2004, I had the pleasure of meeting a very vibrant, intelligent, and aspiring young entrepreneur, Aaron Pastor of the Doghouse Kitchen; see his website www.doghousekitchen.com and his own blog in this publication at http://business.mainetoday.com/doghousekitchen/
Aaron and I discussed the utilization of our fish oil product for his own pets, and we explored the option of incorporating our fish oil as an ingredient for one of his treats; that WE called Omega O's. The baking of that treat actually came to fruition, and Aaron actually baked several dozen batches for us, which we marketed on our website.
The treats received a very positive response from our existing customers as well as those folks that we engaged at various table top vendor related pet healthcare shows which we attended over the subsequent next few months. We still are in conversation with Aaron to possibly revisit him baking the treats for us again at some point in the future.Oh, by the way, Aaron continues to use our fish oil for his beloved dog.
It was through Aarons own marketing events , i.e The Common Ground Fair, and various vendor shows which he manned a table promoting his doggie treat products as well as our OO Fish Oil, that we actually received a call from one of his customers, The Animal House, then located in Newcastle, Maine now located in a beautiful new boutique in Damariscotta Maine;. see their website www.theanimalhouse.net- also see information on their website regarding their event this Saturday August 4th=Woofstock!
In my initial conversation with the proprietors of The Animal House, Aubrey and Dan Martin, we negotiated a deal to bring on our Ocean Omega Fish Oil Products. Three years later, the product is doing extremely well at their boutique, and it is in the top five items of their best selling products.
I have continued to connect and network with other Maine animal care providers, such as Nancy Freedman-Smith, of Gooddogz Training http://www.gooddogztraining.com, also an author of a blog in this publication, http://www.mainetoday.com/pets/dogslife/.
We actually had Nancy utilize our product to help combat cancer, from the dietary intake of pet food, in the form of a supplement, in one of her very devoted friends pets, Brewster. Nancy was kind enough to mention us in one of her blogs; see her archives dated November 09, 2006

in which we offered an introductory discounted promo for our OO fish oil products for her readers. That program too was very successful!
I have continued to forge forward connecting with other Maine pet product providers such as Laurah Brown, proprietor of The Catnip Queen https://secure.knowtechnology.net/catnipqueen/. Laurah actually was a high school classmate of my business partner, Bill Eldridge. She has been very kind to us in the fact that she has recommended us to one of her own mid west distributors, who has decided to also represent our OO fish oil products. Laurah has also recommended us to two prominent Maine Pet Supply outlets.
I am in negotiations with both facilities and I hope?? to be making a very exciting announcement soon!

Bill isn't kidding; Ocean Omega is a top-seller in our store. We specialize in natural foods, remedies and supplies for dogs and cats in Damariscotta. We have seen first-hand what OO can do for dogs: our 14.5 yr old Coonhound has kidney disease and arthritis, and has since we adopted her 2 years ago. Her kidney values are excellent,her movement is fluid,her eyes are clear. Our other 3 dogs are younger, but have fantastic coats and minimal shedding.
We have stocked OO for around two years and it has a huge following. Visit the Ocean Omega table at Woofstock 2007 at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle on Sat., Aug. 4.

Unfortunately, I have to settle into my new house this weekend and therefore cannot attend your Aug 4th Woofstock Event.
