I <3 Myspace
Although as a parent I have been warned in print, on the broadcast news and now through my town's community programs about the danger of myspace.com, as a marketer I adore the site.
Meet Gil. Gil the crab is the star of a Honda Element commercial that has become part of this family's vocabulary - "I pinch." Check out Gil's myspace. Then cruise over and see how Gil has inspired clothing and other items at cafepress.com/ipinch.
Myspace.com helps connect bands and fans, witness the Will Gattis Trio from Falmouth; teens with fashion designed by like-minded teens and more like this student group from USM. These social marketing sites allow small businesses - like those that employ 80% of Mainers to reach millions for a price tag substantially less than millions - like for free!
For those in school there is Facebook.com, for business folks try linkedin.com. Get online, get social and get marketing.

I'd like to clarify that MySpace and similar sites are social network sites that allow people to share and exchange information on a variety of interests and passions. Social marketing? Not quite - social marketing is concerned with marketing health and social issues, not just tapping into these types of sites (despite what Jupiter Research would like you to believe).
